DOWNLOAD OR PLAY?

All browsers will give you the option to download or play a class except Microsoft's Internet Exporer 7 (IE7) and before.  If you have IE7 or before then do a

free upgrade to IE8 (or IE9 if you use Windows 7).  You can also use Safari, Firefox, Opera and several other free browsers which work better than

pre IE9 browsers.

Class formats

Video - videos are available in -

  • .wmv format (windows media video) which should play easily on all devices apart from Apple products (get the media player from iTunes to

play wmv files).  WMV files are provided in low resolution (80kpbs - about 50MB files) and higher resolution (190kbps - 80MB files)

  • MPEG4 format- these files are in the mobile class section and have the 3GPP extension.  The format is however mpeg4 (H.264) so these classes

should play in any mpeg4 capable device (all smart phones)

Audio - audio files are available in -

  • mp3 format - recorded at 32kbps mono with typical filesize 15MB per hour

  • amr format - available in the mobile section these files will usually on almost any mobile and use about 5MB per hour

Problems with Downloads

  • When you hit any of the download link for the 70MB Windows Media files - you should immediately see a dialogue box asking if you want to play or save the file.  Save it to your preferred location on your hard drive (e.g. "My Music" etc).  If this doesn't happen, try right clicking the link, then select "save target as" to your preferred location.
